Golf in the Garden Route

South Africa as a whole was voted ‘Golf Destination of the Year – Africa, Indian Ocean & Gulf States’ by IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) in 2011, while the Cape’s Garden Route already earned that same incredible award in 2007.

So, not surprisingly, the Garden Route boasts a wealth of top-class golf courses, of which newer editions like Simola (a Jack Nicklaus signature course), Oubaai (designed by Ernie Els) and Pinnacle Point just add to the variety of already spectacular courses like Pezula, on top of the Heads, and Fancourt in George.

Through our sister company, Platinum Golf, Tours & Accommodation , we have secured very favorable rates with some of the most spectacular golf courses in the area.  Ask us for rates and compare.

Courses in Knysna:

Pezula Championship Course

The Pezula experience, we call it.  A spectacular, ‘links feel’ championship course with great views over the Indian Ocean and the Knysna Lagoon, right on the cliff top of the East Head of Knysna.   The course is set on an incredibly diverse coastal area and offers players the total golfing experience.   Your golf intellect is required, though…   The course, together with the luxury hotel, makes this place one of the rarest on earth.

The par 4  – 14th hole is quite a short hole where the longer hitters can drive the green with a 289 meter shot.  Course management is however advisable, considering the amount of bunkers around the green.  ‘Drive for show, put for dough’ is the motto here.

Pezula is less than 5 minutes drive from the Knysna Country House.

Simola Golf & Country Estate

One of the best Jack Nicklaus’ signature courses in South Africa.  A spectacular view right through the Knysna Heads and overlooking the Knysna River make this course a definite ‘must play’ in the area.  Water seriously comes into play on only two holes, but Jack Nicklaus’ love for bunkers make precision more important than distance. The 19th hole completes the experience. Simola is a mere 12 minute drive away from the Knysna Country House…

The short par 4 – 2nd hole offers one of the most spectacular tee-offs: overlooking not only the sweeping fairways with the Knysna River at the bottom of the valley, but right through the famous Knysna Heads onto the Indian Ocean on the other side of the ridge.  Bring camera and climb up to the champions’ tee-box for the most spectacular views.

And last but not least:

Knysna Golf Club

You’d like to walk the course and meet the locals in the 19th hole afterwards for a drink or two.  A well maintained, matured and flat parkland course situated on the shores of the tidal Knysna lagoon, where water comes into play on most of the 18 holes. This course is easy to walk and has some tricky holes.  Trees, water and wind can easily be a factor.

The par-5 9th hole is the most formidable at Knysna.   Although it only measures 435 meters, it channels through a wetland and golfers have to be wary of the reeds that flank both sides of the fairway.   Don’t forget the little brook which runs across the fairway about 20 meters from the green.

We’re not even 2 minutes away from the Knysna Golf Club….
